Yuka M.
Yuka Murakami is an undergraduate student at UCLA studying Cognitive Science with a specialization in Computing and minors in Bioinformatics and Entrepreneurship. She is passionate about mathematics and the sciences and enjoys mentoring students to strengthen their skills in these areas. Her academic interests and expertise lie in biology, computer science, and mathematics, and she is pursuing a career in biotechnology as a computational genomics scientist. Most recently, Yuka worked as a Genomics Applications Intern at Element Biosciences, a biotechnology company based in San Diego.
As a tutor, Yuka values discipline and perseverance in overcoming the challenges of learning. She encourages her students to maintain a growth mindset while celebrating their achievements at every milestone. Her teaching style blends clear explanation with active questioning to promote a deep understanding of the material. Ultimately, she aims to help students become confident question-askers and proactive learners.
Yuka draws inspiration from the scientists she collaborates with at UCLA and during her internship, who are making meaningful advances in drug discovery and healthcare innovation. Their ability to communicate complex concepts clearly has influenced her own approach to tutoring, where she strives to make challenging material accessible and engaging.
Outside of academics, Yuka enjoys fashion design and sewing, creating dresses, jackets, and Halloween costumes. In the future, she hopes to combine her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit by owning a bridal boutique. She also loves cooking and exploring different cuisines.
Sociable and curious by nature, Yuka values building meaningful connections with her students and their families. She enjoys sharing insights from her university and high school experiences to help guide and inspire those she mentors.
