Chris M.
Chris graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and East Asian Studies, earning Dean’s List honors for academic excellence. During his time at Columbia, he developed strong analytical and communication skills, successfully balancing rigorous coursework with extracurricular activities that broadened his perspective and deepened his appreciation for diverse cultures and ideas.
Following graduation, he worked for two years as a financial analyst in New York City, where he refined his problem-solving skills and gained experience communicating complex information with clarity and precision.
Motivated by a growing interest in the life sciences, Chris transitioned to a new academic path and is currently completing post-baccalaureate coursework in biology and chemistry in preparation for applying to PhD programs in microbiology and immunology.
Having grown up in Hong Kong, Chris brings a global perspective and a deep respect for cultural diversity to his teaching. His ability to connect with students from a wide range of backgrounds is further supported by extensive teaching and mentoring experience. He has taught English to students in China over two summers, helped incoming high school freshmen as an after-school instructor, and served as a dorm prefect at his boarding school, guiding students through both academic and personal development.
Currently, Chris specializes in tutoring chemistry, biology, and SAT/ACT preparation. His teaching philosophy centers on helping students understand the “why” behind concepts, rather than relying on rote memorization. He believes that this approach fosters critical thinking, builds confidence, and promotes lasting learning. Inspired by mentors who combined intellectual rigor with creativity, he aims to ignite that same curiosity and enthusiasm in his students.
Outside the classroom, Chris enjoys photography, swimming, tennis, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with friends.
