Kyra H.
Kyra graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Biology. Originally from San Francisco, she has several years of tutoring and mentorship experience, primarily in math and science, as well as college application advising. She has worked with students ranging from elementary school through college across both STEM and humanities subjects.
At Brown, Kyra studied mathematics, biology, chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, and physiology. Her interdisciplinary background taught her to focus on understanding the connections between concepts rather than simply memorizing formulas or facts. She brings this same approach to tutoring, helping students break down challenging material, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and build confidence in subjects that may initially feel overwhelming.
Kyra plans to attend medical school and has conducted research in neuroscience and clinical outcomes, earning multiple authorships on scientific publications. She is also a licensed Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and has worked as both a medical assistant and an EMT in a Level I emergency department. These experiences have strengthened her ability to communicate clearly, remain patient under pressure, and connect with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
As a tutor, Kyra’s goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to give them the strategies and confidence to approach problems more independently. She takes the time to understand each student’s individual needs and learning style, adapting her approach to help them feel capable and supported.
Outside of academics, Kyra enjoys running, surfing, rock climbing, reading, spending time outdoors, and playing the drums and guitar.
