The Ladder Method is based at 616 North La Cienega Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069. We have been coaching study skills and executive functioning for over a decade, with hundreds of clients across the United States, in person and virtually.

We work with students from elementary through college, and with adults.

Study Skills, Subject Tutoring and Executive Function Coaching Are Three Different Services

Most parents searching this phrase need one of 3 things.

Subject tutoring reteaches the material. It is the right purchase when your student does not know the algebra.

Study skills work builds the system around the material: note-taking frameworks, recall techniques, exam preparation and workspace management. It is the right purchase when your student understands the content and still tests badly.

Executive function coaching works on organization, time management, task initiation, working memory, emotional regulation and cognitive flexibility. It is the right purchase when the homework gets done and never gets turned in.

The distinction is ours, and we hold it in both directions. Subject tutoring focuses on the content. We teach students how to learn, plan and organize. Therapy focuses on emotional processing. We focus on practical skill-building, time management and goal execution. Those are 3 professions and we will tell you on the consultation call if you are asking us for the wrong one.

Here is what we do inside a study skills or coaching engagement, and the method attached to each:

Skill What We Use
Organization Visual planners, digital systems, workspace management
Time Management Time-blocking, reminders, realistic scheduling
Task Initiation Micro-goals and structured accountability
Working Memory Note-taking frameworks and recall techniques
Emotional Regulation Mindfulness and reflection to reduce overwhelm
Cognitive Flexibility Adapting study methods and adjusting to feedback

What We Publish About Structure, and Why It Matters

We publish the commitment structure for both of our programs. Session length, weekly minimum and typical cadence. Marketplace listings publish a rate and a bio.

Ready to Transform How You Work?

How the Process Works

The sequence is the same for every client. A consultation, a coach match, regular sessions, written progress check-ins, and an exit.

Consultation. We assess needs and goals before quoting anything.

Coach match. We match the client with the coach best suited to their personality and objectives. The match is made on both, not on availability alone.

Sessions. Weekly or biweekly, focused on skill development, accountability, and application to real situations rather than a separate lecture about planners.

Check-ins. Regular progress reviews with students, parents, or adult clients.

Graduation. We stop when the client demonstrates consistent independence and mastery of the strategies introduced during coaching. There is no renewal to decline.

Most clients begin noticing improvement within 4 to 8 weeks. The changes clients report are higher academic performance, improved organization and time management, reduced procrastination and anxiety, and stronger confidence and self-reliance.

Who Does the Work

Our coaches hold backgrounds in education, psychology and learning science. Many hold master's degrees or teaching credentials. Every coach completes specialized training in The Ladder Method framework, which combines executive functioning, evidence-based learning techniques and emotional awareness.

The method was written by Candice Lapin, founder of The Ladder Method.

Approximately 70% of our clients have ADHD, ASD or executive functioning challenges. Our framework is built for that population, with structure, flexibility and positive reinforcement.

None of our coaches are licensed therapists, and we do not present study skills tutoring or coaching as treatment. Where treatment is what a family needs, we say so.
