ISEE Tutor Beverly Hills, CA
The Ladder Method tutors Beverly Hills students for the ISEE 1-on-1. We offer both in-home and virtual options, and in-person instruction at our Sherman Oaks location.
Check whether your schools read the score before you hire anyone. For fall 2027 entry, 14 of the 40 schools on the Los Angeles Independent Schools testing sheet won't accept an ISEE, Archer and Marlborough among them. 4 require one, including Harvard-Westlake and Windward. Crossroads requires it for 9th grade only. The other 21 take a score if you choose to send it.
This page shows which is which, what the test costs, and how many chances your child gets before the deadlines.
Does Your Child Need the ISEE for Fall 2027?
Only if a school on your list requires it, or you want to send a strong score to a school that accepts one. Westside independent schools split 3 ways this cycle, and the split decides whether an ISEE tutor is worth paying for.
Checked 29 September 2026 against the Los Angeles Independent Schools 2027-28 testing sheet and each school's own admission page.
Schools That Require the ISEE
The ISEE is part of the application at these schools, and this is where prep pays.
Harvard-Westlake: required for 7th and 9th grade entry. Send scores from 1 test taken between 1 August 2026 and the 15 January 2027 deadline. The school code is 052135.
Windward: listed as testing required on the LAIS sheet.
Crossroads: required for 9th grade. For 6th to 8th it's optional, and Crossroads strongly encourages sending a score if your child is testing for another school anyway. There's no minimum score, and testing is optional again for 10th to 12th, per the school's 2025-26 FAQ.
Schools Where the ISEE Is Optional
A score here is a card you decide whether to play. E3n lets you add score recipients after you've seen the report, at no extra fee, and a school listed before test day can't be removed afterward. So leave the optional schools off until the scores are in.
Brentwood: testing isn't required, and Brentwood "welcomes" ISEE scores. The school code is 051555, and the deadline is 8 January 2027.
Buckley: optional for 6th to 12th on the LAIS sheet. The deadline is 16 December 2026.
Campbell Hall, Milken, Oakwood, Viewpoint and Wildwood: scores accepted if you send them.
Schools That Don't Accept the ISEE
An ISEE tutor is the wrong spend for these schools.
Archer: no ISEE. After the interview, Archer gives families a 30-minute writing prompt and a 30-minute math worksheet, done at home with a parent proctoring, and says no advance preparation is needed. The deadline is 10 December 2026.
Marlborough: listed as not accepting scores on the LAIS sheet.
New Roads: listed as not accepting scores on the LAIS sheet.
Beverly Hills Unified Families Apply Differently
Archer waives teacher and school recommendations for students in Beverly Hills Unified and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified. Its application page gives the reason: district policy is that teachers don't write recommendations for independent school applicants. That policy follows your child to every school on the list, so ask each admissions office how it handles a Beverly Hills Unified applicant with no teacher recommendation.
The grade map matters too. El Rodeo and Horace Mann run through 5th grade, and Beverly Vista runs 6th to 8th. A Beverly Hills Unified student's natural exits are 6th grade entry, on the Lower Level ISEE, and 9th grade entry, on the Upper Level.
What Changed This Year: ERB Is Now E3n
The ISEE is the same test with a new organization behind it. ERB, which published the ISEE, merged with EMA, which published the SSAT, and the combined nonprofit, E3n, became official on 2 March 2026.
3 things look different this cycle:
Registration and score reports run through admission.org. The ISEE and SSAT family pages we checked on erblearn.org and ssat.org now redirect there.
Score and accommodations questions go to e3n.org email addresses, per the 2026-27 ISEE guide.
School pages haven't all caught up. Harvard-Westlake's checklist still tells families to register on the "Educational Records Bureau (ERB) website." Same test, same registration.
The sections, the timing, the scoring and the once-per-season rule stayed the same. The ISEE and the SSAT both run in their current form for the 2026-27 cycle.
What the ISEE Costs
E3n sets the test fee. For grades 5 to 12 it runs $170 to $255, depending on where your child tests, and tutoring is a separate bill.
2026-27 fees for grades 5 to 12, from E3n's ISEE registration page:
At a school, online or paper: $170
At a school, paper, late registration (20 to 14 days out): $215
At a school, paper, walk-in (13 days or less): $230
At home, run by the school: $170
At home, run by E3n: $250
E3n office, small group: $225
E3n office, individual (for approved accommodations): $255
Prometric test center: $250
The at-school fee was $165 in the 2025-26 guide. Grades 2 to 4 pay $130 to $210. Rescheduling is free 31 or more days before the test, then costs $25, $45 or $75 as the date gets closer, and a cancellation 4 days or less before test day gets no refund. Fee waivers come from the schools you apply to, not from E3n.
When to Test: 2 Chances Before Most Deadlines
Your child can take the ISEE once per testing season, and most Westside deadlines land in December and January. That leaves 2 real chances for fall 2027 applications: 1 sitting in the fall window and 1 early in the winter window.
The 3 testing windows:
Fall: August to November
Winter: December to March
Spring and summer: April to July, too late for this cycle
Dates to plan around:
9 November 2026: Buckley priority deadline
10 December 2026: Archer deadline (no ISEE)
16 December 2026: Buckley deadline for 6th to 12th grade
8 January 2027: Brentwood deadline
15 January 2027: Harvard-Westlake deadline, and the last day for a test it will accept
12 March 2027: LAIS schools send decisions
19 March 2027: family replies due by 12 PM
Which level your child sits:
Applying to 5th or 6th grade: Lower Level. For El Rodeo and Horace Mann families, this is the 6th grade entry test.
Applying to 7th or 8th: Middle Level. This covers Harvard-Westlake's 7th grade entry.
Applying to 9th through 12th: Upper Level. This is the test for a Beverly Vista 8th grader.
We recommend starting as soon as possible, because the ISEE often tests math 1 or 2 levels above a student's current grade. Book the fall date early. Rescheduling is free until 31 days out.
How Our ISEE Tutoring Works
Every program starts with a practice test and ends with strategy, because the ISEE tests knowledge first.
Diagnostic. Every student starts with a practice test that shows what content needs to be refreshed.
Practice. Practice is how our students learn the exam before test day. At the Middle and Upper Levels, the clock is part of it: 40 Verbal Reasoning questions in 20 minutes and 37 Quantitative Reasoning questions in 35.
Refresh. The ISEE tests knowledge rather than tricks, so our students learn the content. It often reaches math 1 or 2 levels above a student's current grade.
Mindset. We use our founder's mindset techniques for performance, even with our youngest students.
Strategy. Strategy is only a fifth of the battle, so it comes last. Once the content is refreshed, we work on timing and individual strategies. On the ISEE that includes answering every question, because wrong answers cost nothing.
Our testing programs are 1-on-1 and follow our own curriculum and books, and students can also work from our ISEE & ERB Vocabulary Flashcards. You can read more about our ISEE test preparation programs.
We offer both in-home and virtual options, and in-person instruction at our Sherman Oaks location. You can also get a test proctored in person at our Los Angeles headquarters, 6060 Center Drive.
ISEE Prep for Students With ADHD or Executive Function Challenges
Extended time on the ISEE starts with an accommodations application. E3n tells families not to register until the accommodations decision comes back.
What E3n's 2026-27 guide says:
Any student with a documented disability is eligible.
An approval lasts 24 months, so a spring 2026 approval covers this cycle and the next.
Accommodations are not flagged on the score report.
Individual testing at an E3n office, listed for accommodations, costs $255 in grades 5 to 12.
The ISEE tests executive function about as hard as it tests content. Verbal Reasoning at the Middle and Upper Levels allows 30 seconds a question. The essay gives your child 30 minutes and a blank page. Quantitative comparison questions ask a student to hold 2 expressions side by side. For a student with ADHD, a low section score can come from a lost minute at the start or a stalled question in the middle as easily as from missing content.
We specialize in supporting students with ADHD, ASD or executive functioning challenges, and about 70% of our clients fall into those categories, based on our own intake. For support beyond the test, see our ADHD coaching in Beverly Hills.
When an ISEE Tutor Is the Wrong Hire
An ISEE tutor is the wrong spend in 3 cases.
Your first choice doesn't accept scores. Archer, Marlborough and New Roads won't read an ISEE for fall 2027, and Archer says its own at-home exercises need no advance preparation.
The test date can't beat the deadline. A late-January winter sitting misses Harvard-Westlake's 15 January cutoff.
The problem is follow-through. Tutoring focuses on subject matter, while executive function coaching teaches students how to learn, plan and organize. See our executive function coaching in Beverly Hills.
Questions Beverly Hills Parents Ask
What does the ISEE cost?
E3n sets the fee. In grades 5 to 12 it's $170 at a school or at home through the school, $225 to $255 at an E3n office, and $250 at a Prometric center or at home through E3n. Late and walk-in paper registrations at a school cost $215 and $230. Fee waivers come from the schools you apply to.
Do you tutor in person?
We offer both in-home and virtual options, and in-person instruction at our Sherman Oaks location. You can also get a test proctored in person at our Los Angeles headquarters.
Does my daughter need the ISEE for Archer or Marlborough?
No. Both are listed as not accepting scores on the LAIS 2027-28 testing sheet. Archer uses its own writing prompt and math worksheet, 30 minutes each, completed at home after the interview.
Is the ISEE required at Harvard-Westlake?
Yes, for 7th and 9th grade entry. Send scores from 1 test taken between 1 August 2026 and 15 January 2027. The school code is 052135.
How many times can my child take the ISEE?
Once per testing season, up to 3 times a year. With most Westside deadlines in December and January, that means 2 useful sittings: 1 in the fall window and 1 early in the winter window.
Will schools see every score?
No. You always get the report, and you choose which schools receive it, at registration or after you've seen the scores. Adding schools later costs nothing. A school listed before test day can't be removed, and schools only receive complete reports.
Is there a penalty for guessing?
No. The ISEE counts correct answers only, so your child should answer every question.
Is ERB the same as E3n?
For the ISEE, yes. ERB merged with EMA, the SSAT's publisher, and the combined organization has been E3n since 2 March 2026. Los Angeles parents also say "the ERBs" for the CTP, a grade-level achievement test independent schools give their own students. That is a different test.
Should my child take the ISEE or the SSAT?
Check each school first. Harvard-Westlake's checklist asks for the ISEE, and Crossroads accepts either. Where a school takes both, compare the formats. The Upper Level SSAT runs 3 hours 10 minutes with breaks and includes a 15-minute unscored experimental section. The Middle and Upper Level ISEE runs 2 hours 40 minutes plus 2 breaks of 10 minutes.
Can my child get extended time?
Yes, with an approved accommodations request. Apply before you register, because E3n asks families to wait for the decision. Approvals last 24 months and aren't flagged on score reports.
When should we start?
As soon as possible. The ISEE often tests math 1 or 2 levels above a student's current grade, and your child gets 1 sitting per testing season.
Do you guarantee a score?
No. Results are not a guarantee, and our own results pages say so.
““The Ladder Method has been instrumental in helping my son with ADHD improve his executive functioning skills. His coach Alexis has been kind, encouraging and amazing. She has implemented very well their curriculum created by their carefully thought out outcomes measures. My son is flourishing with this program and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their executive functioning skills. Alexis has also helped with homework and academic areas requiring more EF skills. Thank you Alexis!”
