Shannon Z.
Shannon graduated magna cum laude from Boston University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, concentrating in pure mathematics, including abstract algebra, differential geometry, and mathematical logic.
After college, Shannon moved to San Francisco where she worked in consulting, focusing on finance, data, and analytics marketing. She later transitioned into the health tech industry as a product manager, applying her problem-solving skills to improve transparency and accessibility in healthcare. Throughout this time, Shannon remained committed to education, volunteering with a local nonprofit to tutor students ages 4 to 18 in math and reading.
Shannon has worked with students across a wide age range, including extensive experience supporting middle schoolers in developing foundational math skills and building confidence in subjects like pre-algebra and algebra. Her ability to break down complex topics into simple, relatable steps makes her especially effective with this age group.
Her passion for learning and teaching eventually inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in mathematics, with the goal of teaching in higher education. Now based in West Los Angeles, Shannon is a part-time graduate student and a dedicated math tutor, working with students from elementary school through college.
In addition to her academic and tutoring work, Shannon has experience teaching children through creative outlets. She has taught art history at a local art center and participated in a college outreach program that supported Boston-area students in math and reading. Her own love of mathematics was sparked by professors who made abstract concepts feel approachable, and she strives to do the same for her students.
Outside the classroom, Shannon enjoys exploring Los Angeles especially hiking and going to the beach. She also practices yoga and meditation, and spends her free time cooking, drawing, and learning ceramics.
