Danny H.
Danny graduated cum laude from Mount Holyoke College with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Coastal and Marine Sciences. He is a passionate educator dedicated to helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop a lasting sense of self. His teaching philosophy is asset-based, grounded in the belief that every student can succeed when provided with the right support, strategies, and encouragement.
Danny discovered his passion for student success while teaching and developing undergraduate biology curriculum at Mount Holyoke College, where he taught biology laboratory courses and supported students transitioning from high school to college-level STEM. He is known for making complex scientific concepts approachable, reducing barriers to learning, and fostering an inclusive classroom environment built on trust, confidence, and meaningful mentorship. Watching students leave his courses believing in their own abilities remains one of the most rewarding parts of his work.
Alongside his teaching experience, Danny has an extensive background in scientific research. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in independent research projects with organizations including NOAA, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, and Sea Semester, conducting fisheries and oceanographic research. His senior honors thesis examined the ecology of Sargassum in the North Atlantic Ocean, earning him Honors in Biology. Following graduation, he worked as a research technician at UMass Amherst, studying mouse genetics to advance understanding of human diseases.
Most recently, Danny combined his passion for education and the environment by working at an outdoor education center, where he led team-building programs for school groups. Through ropes course activities and experiential learning, he helped students strengthen communication, collaboration, resilience, and confidence while encouraging them to challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
