Annabelle W.
Annabelle graduated from Colby College, where she began her academic experience with a language immersion program in Salamanca, Spain. While at Colby, she worked with the English Department and at the Colby College Museum of Art, the largest art museum in Maine. She also gained experience tutoring elementary school students in Common Core math, particularly supporting those whose learning was impacted by school closures during the pandemic. Her approach incorporated movement, games, and the visual and performing arts to strengthen foundational skills and build confidence.
During her time at Colby, Annabelle received funding to collaborate with the Maine Down Syndrome Network on a project focused on accessible language and reading comprehension for teens with cognitive disabilities. She was invited to present this work at the National Down Syndrome Affiliates in Action Conference in 2023. Inspired in part by her sister, who has Down Syndrome, Annabelle is deeply committed to making learning an empowering and positive experience. She has provided one-on-one support to students ages 11–17 with a range of cognitive needs and finds great fulfillment in helping students build confidence, independence, and effective organizational and time management skills.
After graduating from Colby, Annabelle completed the National Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship at Wolfe’s Neck Center, a research institute and regenerative farm. While her background is rooted in the humanities, she developed a strong appreciation for the sciences through her studies in plant and soil biology, as well as animal health and anatomy. During this time, she also explored literary interests in post-pastoralism and Southern Gothic literature.
Annabelle is currently pursuing her MFA, where she continues to engage deeply with literature ranging from Dante’s Inferno to Roberto Bolaño’s 2666. She plans to teach undergraduate creative writing during the 2026–2027 academic year.
