The Answers Most Coaching Pages Leave Out
Other coaching pages that rank for this search hold most of this back for the first call. Here it is in writing.
The first call is free, by phone, and we don't take payment on it.
We quote the fee on that call and confirm it in writing before you pay anything.
Billing is monthly, after the sessions happen. No prepaid package, no minimum term.
You can stop with 7 days' notice, and a session moved with 24 hours' notice isn't charged.
Sessions run weekly or biweekly, set after the assessment.
Coaching happens in your home in the City of Beverly Hills, the Beverly Hills Post Office area, Bel Air or Beverly Glen, at our Sherman Oaks location, or online.
Our coaches don't work as licensed clinicians here, and California doesn't license coaching.
We don't bill insurance. We do accept Self-Determination Program funds.
Coach, Therapist or Psychiatrist: Which You Need First
Diagnosis, medication and insurance-billed care sit with a licensed clinician. The daily system that gets school or job tasks planned, started and handed in sits with a coach. If you need both, see the clinician first.
California licenses the clinicians and nobody else. The Board of Behavioral Sciences licenses LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs and educational psychologists. The Board of Psychology licenses psychologists, and psychiatrists are physicians licensed by the Medical Board of California. No state board licenses ADHD or executive function coaches, so anyone can use the title. You can check any clinical license in about 1 minute on the state's DCA License Search.
The workforce shows it. In January 2026, a University of Washington team led by Margaret Sibley published the first large survey of US ADHD coaches in JAMA Network Open (summary from UW Medicine). Of 481 coaches, 15% held a professional license, 89% had no professional mental health background, and 60.9% started during or after the pandemic. Knowable Magazine reported in February 2026 that the lack of standards leaves clients with no legal protections.
No state licenses life coaches. Utah considered it and stopped short: its March 2025 law says only licensed therapists may present themselves as able to treat mental illness, and it pays for enforcement from a fund built on fines.
So ask about licensing on every call, ours included. Our answer is in the list above.
The Beverly Hills Coach Screen: 6 Questions, Our Answers
Ask every coach these 6 questions before you pay anyone. A coach who won't answer 1 of them in writing has answered it.
1. Which credential, from which body, and how many hours?
"Certified" covers a lot. The ADHD Coaches Organization recommends an ICF-accredited ADHD program with at least 35 ADHD-specific hours, plus a PAAC or ICF credential. The National Board of Executive Function Certification, a private organization, runs a "Board Certified Executive Function Coach" program of 150 hours and a proctored exam. Neither is a state license.
Our answer: every coach completes 120 hours of Ladder Method training before a first client, and 3 of our 9 Westside coaches also hold a PAAC or ICF credential.
2. Do you hold a California clinical license, and what's the number?
Only a license comes with a board you can check and complain to.
Our answer: no. We coach, and we refer clinical work out.
3. What's the fee, in writing, before a second call?
A number on paper is the only fair way to compare 2 coaches.
Our answer: we quote it on the free consultation and confirm it in writing before you pay anything.
4. Will you take payment on this call?
A decision you're pushed to make on the call is the one to delay.
Our answer: no. You get a written scope first.
5. What will you tell my child's school?
You decide what a school hears, not the coach.
Our answer: nothing without your written consent. With it, a 1-page monthly summary goes to the person you name.
6. When do you refer out, and to whom?
Coaching doesn't treat anxiety, depression or substance use.
Our answer: if sessions keep turning to mood, sleep, anxiety or medication, we pause and refer you to your pediatrician or a licensed clinician.
Walk away from:
A consultation that won't name a price.
Any 3-month package that has to be decided before you hang up.
Discounts that exist only if you enter a card during the call.
Scripts that use ADHD itself as the reason you can't wait.
90210 Has 2 School Districts, and Your Street Picks the 504 Path
A 90210 address doesn't tell you who runs your child's 504 plan. Inside the City of Beverly Hills, it's Beverly Hills Unified. In the Beverly Hills Post Office area, the hillside neighborhood that shares the ZIP but belongs to the City of Los Angeles, it's LAUSD.
Inside the City of Beverly Hills: BHUSD
Beverly Hills Unified had 3,074 students in 2023-24. Its 3 elementary schools, El Rodeo, Hawthorne and Horace Mann, run K-5. Beverly Vista Middle School takes grades 6 to 8, and Beverly Hills High School takes 9 to 12. Section 504 runs through the district's Student Services department at (310) 551-5100, and parents start with the school's 504 coordinator. Confirm your address on the BHUSD School Finder.
In the Beverly Hills Post Office Area: LAUSD
Homes here are assigned by street to Warner Avenue or West Hollywood Elementary, then to Emerson Community Charter and University High School Charter. LAUSD handles Section 504 through its Office of Student Civil Rights at (213) 241-7682. Confirm your address on LAUSD's Resident School Identifier.
The 2 moves that matter most for ADHD happen inside BHUSD. Since 2019 all 3 elementary schools feed Beverly Vista, so 6th grade means a new campus and a new schedule. 9th grade means Beverly Hills High. We start rising 6th and 9th graders in August with a 6-week setup: the planner, the school portal, a bag system, and a first-week plan for each class.
If your child is at a private school, ask the learning specialist which accommodation process the school uses before you pay a coach to duplicate it.
How Beverly Hills Families Pay for ADHD Coaching
Expect to pay out of pocket, because insurance rarely covers coaching. We quote our fee on the free consultation and confirm it in writing before you pay anything.
The Beverly Hills Payment Map
Four routes, who each one works for, and where we stand on it:
Out of pocket works for everyone and needs nothing extra. We bill monthly, after sessions.
Health insurance rarely pays for coaching. Fewer than 5% of coaches in the 2026 survey accepted it, and reimbursement needs a licensed clinician billing for treatment. We don't bill it.
HSA or FSA money needs a diagnosed condition that the service treats, plus your plan administrator's approval. We give itemized receipts on request.
The Self-Determination Program works for Westside Regional Center clients with a qualifying developmental disability. It needs an orientation, an individual budget, a spending plan and a financial management service. We accept it.
The Self-Determination Program Route
No coaching page ranking for this search mentions it. Westside Regional Center serves Beverly Hills, including ZIPs 90210, 90211 and 90212. Since 1 July 2021, every eligible regional center client in California can join the program. Eligibility follows the state's definition of developmental disability: intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and other disabling conditions that begin before 18. ADHD isn't on that list. A child with autism and ADHD may qualify, so ask your service coordinator.
Inside the program, you attend an orientation, get an individual budget based on your last 12 months of regional center services, and spend it through a financial management service you choose. Under the state's SDP rules, providers other than that service don't need to be vendored through the regional center. We accept SDP funds.
HSA and FSA Rules
The rule is narrower than coaching sites suggest. IRS guidance says a medical expense must be primarily to alleviate or prevent a physical or mental disability or illness, and it excludes expenses merely beneficial to general health. If a coaching company offers to generate a letter of medical necessity at checkout, treat it as a sales convenience, not an IRS ruling. Your plan administrator decides, so ask them in writing first. We can't write that letter.
How Coaching Works at The Ladder Method
5 steps, from a free call to the week your student runs the system alone.
Free consultation: 20 minutes by phone with an enrollment specialist. No payment taken.
Assessment: an assessment coach meets the student and a parent for 75 minutes. Our Student Success team then writes the plan, with goals, cadence and session length. You get it in writing within 7 days.
Matching: we pair the student with the coach who best fits their personality and goals.
Sessions: weekly or biweekly, built on real assignments and real deadlines, with regular check-ins for parents or adult clients.
Graduation: when the student runs the system without us. For our Westside students in 2024-25, the median was 20 weeks.
Age-by-age detail is on our coaching programs page. If you're weighing the 2 labels, we wrote about how ADHD coaching differs from executive function coaching.
Results We Track
We track 4 numbers for every student, every week: missing assignments, work started on the day planned, weekly planning done without a prompt, and homework nights with conflict at home. Here's how they moved for 184 Westside students who completed at least 12 weeks between September 2023 and June 2025.
Missing assignments fell from a median of 6 a month in week 1 to 2 in week 12.
Assignments started on the day planned rose from 38% to 71%.
Weekly plans done without a prompt went from 12% to 64%.
Homework nights with conflict, by parent report, dropped from 4 a week to 1.
Method: coach session logs plus a 3-question weekly parent check-in. 23 of the 207 students who started stopped before week 12 and aren't counted, which flatters these numbers.
About 70% of our clients come to us with ADHD, autism or executive function challenges, according to our intake records.
"I have used The Ladder Method for over a year now. They are caring, amazing to work with, and most important, they get results. My 5th grader went from a C to an A student." Parent review, Yelp
When Coaching Is the Wrong Purchase
Some families who call should spend the money somewhere else first. We'll say so on the call.
No diagnosis and a pattern that's new: see your pediatrician or a psychologist first. Coaching builds systems. It doesn't explain why they keep failing.
Anxiety, depression, disordered eating, substance use or self-harm is the main problem: see a licensed clinician. We aren't licensed to treat any of it. If anyone is in crisis, call or text 988.
You want insurance to pay: hire a licensed psychologist or LCSW who does executive function work and can give you a superbill.
The gap is the subject itself: hire a subject tutor.
A 504 plan or IEP already includes executive function support: read it before you pay for a second version.
Who Coaches Beverly Hills Clients
Nine coaches cover the Westside. Each has a background in education, psychology or learning science, and each completes The Ladder Method's training before working with a client. 6 hold master's degrees in education, special education or psychology. 3 hold a PAAC or ICF credential. None works as a licensed clinician here.
The method was written by our founder, Candice Lapin, author of Parenting in the Age of Perfection.
12 Executive Function Skills and What We Do About Each
Executive function is the set of 8 to 12 mental skills that get a task planned, started and finished. We coach all 12.
Organization, when papers end up crushed in the backpack and keys go missing: visual planners, digital systems and a workspace setup.
Time management, when "10 minutes" turns into 2 hours: time-blocking, reminders and schedules built on real task times.
Task initiation, when nothing starts without a prompt: micro-goals and structured accountability.
Working memory, when instructions vanish within a minute: note-taking frameworks and recall techniques.
Emotional regulation, when small corrections set off big reactions: reflection and mindfulness at the point of overwhelm.
Flexibility, when a moved deadline wrecks the week: switching study methods and using feedback.
Self-monitoring, when every grade comes as a surprise: a 2-minute check against the rubric before work goes in.
Planning, when big projects never get broken down: backward plans from the due date.
Focus and attention, when work drifts mid-task: timed work blocks with a written stopping point.
Task management, when the steps are clear but the order isn't: a now, next and later list for each project.
Meta-cognition, when no study method sticks: 2 methods tested side by side, and the student keeps the winner.
Goal-directed perseverance, when projects stall at the same spot: a check-in scheduled for the point where work usually stops.
Questions Beverly Hills Families Ask
How much does an ADHD coach cost in Beverly Hills?
We quote the fee on the free consultation and confirm it in writing before you pay anything. Expect to pay out of pocket: fewer than 5% of ADHD coaches in the 2026 JAMA Network Open survey accepted health insurance.
Are ADHD coaches licensed in California?
No. California doesn't license coaching, so anyone can use the title. The Board of Behavioral Sciences licenses LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs and educational psychologists, and the Board of Psychology licenses psychologists. Check any license on the DCA License Search.
Will insurance pay for ADHD coaching?
Rarely. Fewer than 5% of ADHD coaches in the 2026 survey accepted health insurance. If insurance matters most, hire a licensed psychologist or LCSW who does executive function work.
Can we use an HSA or FSA?
Sometimes. IRS guidance limits medical expenses to care that is primarily for a physical or mental illness or disability, and it excludes spending that only benefits general health. Your plan administrator decides, so ask in writing before you spend.
Do you accept Self-Determination Program funds?
Yes. If your family is in the program through Westside Regional Center, you can pay us from your spending plan through your financial management service. Under the state's rules, providers other than that service don't need regional center vendorization.
Do you come to our home?
Yes, in the City of Beverly Hills, the Beverly Hills Post Office area, Bel Air and Beverly Glen, weekdays 3pm to 8pm and Saturday mornings. We also coach at our Sherman Oaks location and online by Zoom or Google Meet.
Do we need a diagnosis before coaching starts?
No. Paying with HSA or FSA money needs one, and the Self-Determination Program needs a qualifying developmental disability.
What will you tell my child's school?
Nothing without your written consent. With it, we send a 1-page monthly summary to the 504 coordinator or learning specialist you name. We don't write accommodation letters. Schools want a report from a qualified assessor.
Is our school in BHUSD or LAUSD?
Your street decides, not your ZIP. Homes in the Beverly Hills Post Office area use 90210 but sit in the City of Los Angeles and LAUSD. Check your address on the BHUSD School Finder or LAUSD's Resident School Identifier.
Do you coach adults whose schedules change every week?
Yes. In 2025, 31% of our Westside adult clients worked in film, TV, music or talent agencies. We plan each week from that week's actual schedule and hold a fixed 15-minute Sunday planning call.
