Executive Function Coach London
The Ladder Method coaches executive function skills online. We work with students from elementary school through university, and with adults, wherever they are.
We teach organisation, time management, task initiation, working memory, emotional regulation and cognitive flexibility. Not as theory. As systems your child uses on a Tuesday night when the coursework is due Thursday.
We have coached executive function for over a decade and worked with hundreds of clients. Around 70% of them have ADHD, autism or executive functioning challenges.
What We Coach, and How It Changes With Age
The skills stay the same. What a session looks like does not.
Elementary school. Foundational work: organisation, emotional regulation and task initiation. Getting things into the right place and starting without a fight.
Middle and secondary school. Time management, study techniques and independent work habits. This is where most families come to us, because it is where the workload first outruns the system.
University students and adults. Productivity systems, planning tools and strategies for self-motivation. No parent in the room and no timetable imposed from outside. See university and adult coaching.
Every session is built around the individual's goals and stage rather than a fixed curriculum.

What a Search for an Executive Function Coach in London Actually Returns
Three different services share that one search term, and the results page won't tell you which is which.
Skills coaching. One-to-one work on planning, starting tasks, keeping track of time and managing frustration. This is what most parents mean when they type the phrase, and it's what we do.
Clinic-attached coaching. Coaching sold alongside psychiatric assessment and prescribing, usually inside a private clinic. If your child needs assessment, medication review and coaching under one roof, that bundle makes sense. Check which part of it you are actually buying.
Leadership executive coaching. Coaching for executives. Not coaching for executive function. Different profession, different training, different client. It ranks for the same words because the words look similar.
Work out which of the three you want before you read another provider page. If the problem is that your teenager knows how to do the homework and cannot start it, only the first one is relevant.
Who The Ladder Method is
A coaching practice with over a decade of executive function work and hundreds of clients behind it, delivered both in person and virtually. Our coaches come from education, psychology and learning science. Every one of them completes training in the Ladder Method framework, which combines executive functioning, evidence-based learning techniques and emotional awareness. Many hold master's degrees or teaching credentials. We specialise in neurodivergent learners. Around 70% of our clients have ADHD, autism or executive functioning challenges, and the framework is built for a range of learning profiles rather than one. More about The Ladder Method and how the practice works.
How the Coaching Works
Consultation, coach matching, regular sessions, check-ins, then finishing.
Consultation. An initial conversation to work out needs and goals.
Coach matching. We match the client to the coach best suited to their personality and objectives. Personality matters as much as the skill profile here.
Sessions. Weekly or biweekly. Each one covers skill development, accountability, and applying the work to real situations rather than exercises.
Check-ins. Regular progress check-ins with students, parents or adult clients.
Finishing. Coaching ends when the client shows consistent independence and can run the strategies without us. That is the point of it.
Meet Noah Donner Klein
Noah started working with The Ladder Method in the spring of 2019. When he began coaching, he needed support building the executive functioning skills required to stay on top of college-level demands. Through weekly sessions focused on time management, planning, and breaking large projects into manageable steps, Noah developed the habits and confidence he needed to succeed on his own. He went on to finish his degree at USC and landed a career just one month after graduation. Noah's story shows what becomes possible when students get the right structure and support at the right time.
Coaching, Tutoring and Therapy Are Three Different Services
Tutoring works on the subject. Therapy works on emotional processing. Coaching works on the system underneath both.
A tutor gets your child through the chemistry paper. We work on starting the revision, planning it across six weeks, and remembering it exists. We teach students how to learn, plan and organise rather than teaching them the content.
Therapy sits somewhere else again. It works on emotional processing. We emphasise practical skill-building, time management and goal execution. Plenty of people need both, and there is no conflict in having both. If the main problem is anxiety or something that needs clinical care, a coach is the wrong first call. There is more on how coaching differs from therapy on our blog.
Funding, and why Access to Work will not apply
Access to Work is the UK government grant that can fund workplace support, including coaching. It has two conditions that rule it out here. You must live and work in England, Scotland or Wales. Citizenship is not the test. The scheme's own eligibility rules are explicit that you do not need to be a UK citizen, but you do need to live and work in Great Britain. It also funds people who are in paid work or about to start it. That makes it a route for working adults, not for a school-age child. Coaching with us sits outside the scheme. If you are an adult in London who does qualify, apply through it and use a provider set up to work with the grant.
The Four-Answer Screen: What to Ask Any Coach Before You Book
Four questions. Use them on us and on everyone else you call.
Which executive function training did you complete, by name, and does it cover children?
You want a training body, not a philosophy. Connections in Mind, ADDCA, an IEFCC certification, a psychology qualification. Any of those is an answer.
Are you coaching executive function or leadership?
Ask what a session actually contains. Planning a week, breaking a project into steps and building a revision timetable is executive function coaching. Goal-setting and identity work is a different service.
What do the first six weeks look like in writing?
Frequency, who you speak to between sessions, what parents receive, cancellation terms. If none of it exists on paper, it does not exist.
What happens when a session is missed across a time difference?
Rescheduling, notice period and the no-show policy. A provider outside the UK who cannot answer this cleanly has not done it before.
The coaches who answer all four without improvising go on your shortlist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Access to Work to pay for this?
No. The scheme requires you to live and work in England, Scotland or Wales, and it funds workplace support for people in paid employment. Neither condition fits a school-age child.
How is this different from tutoring?
Tutoring works on subject matter. We teach students how to learn, plan and organise.
How is this different from therapy?
Therapy works on emotional processing. Coaching works on practical skill-building, time management and goal execution. Plenty of clients do both at once.
How long before we see something change?
Most clients begin noticing improvements within 4 to 8 weeks. Many families describe a shift in motivation inside the first few sessions. Any provider promising a fixed number of sessions to a fixed outcome is guessing.
Do you work with adults?
Yes. Adults work on productivity systems, planning tools and self-motivation, and it runs separately from the student coaching.
How often are sessions?
Weekly or biweekly, set from what comes out of the consultation.
Do you specialise in ADHD?
Yes. Around 70% of our clients have ADHD, autism or executive functioning challenges.
When does coaching stop?
When the client runs the strategies without us. Independence is the finish line, not a renewal date.
